Pascagoula River Largemouth Bass Restoration::
Mississippi Power Company through the Mississippi Power Company Foundation pledged $120,000 toward the propagation and replacement of largemouth bass in the Pascagoula River. The devastating effects of hurricane Katrina resulted in a loss of hundreds of thousands of freshwater fish in the river system. With this funding and a working partnership with Mississippi State University, the Mississippi Department of Fisheries has raised and released over 50,000 12 to 14 inch bass all of which have identity tags either attached or injected as dye. These fish are immediately available as a sport fishing opportunity. Area bass fishing clubs have help with this annual release for the past two years. 2009 will make the third and final phase of this three year commitment.
Mississippi Archery In Schools::
This program trains children in grades 4th-12th in the sport of archery. The National Archery in Schools Program guidelines are followed. The Mississippi High School Athletic Association officially made archery a sport in May of 2007. Mississippi is the first state in the nation to make archery an official high school sport. Our board member Mr. Waldo Cleland serves as state archery training coordinator. Through his efforts the program is now in over 100 public and private schools across the state. This fine program is now building confidence and promoting self-esteem in 1000’s of students throughout Mississippi. Help your local school become involved by contacting the MWFP Foundation today !

Tracking Mississippi Black Bears::
The MDWFP wildlife division has an ongoing project to capture and collar black bears in the state. The bears are tracked via radio-telemetry to help insure their safety and well- being. Funding for part of this program has been donated to the Foundation by the Magnolia Chapter of Safari Club International. Partnerships like this one illustrate how two conservation groups can make it happen
Horse Stalls for Black Prairie WMA::
Many of the states bird dog field trials are held at the Black Prairie WMA. A shortage of paddock area for the horses ridden at these trials created a flow of dollars from the interested and concerned individuals who attend these events. Within just a few weeks these donations created new panels to more than double the previous horse stall area. From conceptual idea to check written Foundation dollars make the idea a reality
North MS Fish Hatchery & Visitor-Education Center::
Located at Enid Lake Reservoir just off of I-55 this new facility easily reflects the over $10 million spent on this project. Private and Corporate Foundation dollars help fund the Exhibit Room, the hand- painted murals, the fishing simulator machines, and the landscaping. This is an excellent site to visit with the family and will soon become a regular tourist attraction
Fallen Officers Memorial::
Located at the MDWFP headquarters visitor’s entrance you will notice a stately monument honoring the brave officers who have died in the line of duty serving the agency. This handsome marble stone along with the flag pole and the American flag serve as a lasting reminder of these who gave their all. This is another example of MWFP Foundation dollars at work.
