About Waldo Cleland
The Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Foundation is making the Archery in Schools Program available to the schools in Mississippi. This is a continuation of the on-going effort by the Foundation and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to attract Mississippi youth into the out-of-doors and to support Mississippi’s schools in their effort to improve the physical condition of the youth and to provide youth with a pastime that they can utilize throughout their lives. Mississippi was the twenty-fifth state to implement the program.
The Foundation with the help of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, and through the cooperation of the State Department of Education and the Mississippi Private School Association is coordinating the implementation of the archery program in Mississippi’s public and private schools.
Many schools have purchased one “kit” that includes bows, arrows, targets and a large hanging backdrop that will protect your facilities and background objects. The cost of one kit is $2800.00. One kit will allow eleven stations that will service a class size many times that number of students. The Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks Foundation will offer free of charge a one day training seminar for your schools instructors to be certified as a level one archery instructor. Each school is required to have two instructors attend this training seminar. These seminars will be held at various locations in the state at different times of the year.
